Tucson Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening is the simplest, quickest way for most people to get a beautiful smile. As long as your teeth are healthy, you are probably a candidate for whitening. Dr. Steinberg offers two options for whitening:

  • Take-home whitening, that you can do yourself at home
  • In-office Boost whitening

The Boost whitening is much faster, and is the option most of our patients prefer.

How Does Boost Tooth Whitening Work?

Images of a woman's smile before and after teeth whitening. In the before image, her teeth are yellow. In the after image, they are whiteTooth whitening is a relatively easy procedure for you. Our hygienist will rinse your teeth. Then she will apply a protective coating to your gums. Next, she will carefully coat your teeth with Boost whitening gel. The gel will stay on your teeth for 20 minutes, oxidizing away the stains. She will then carefully remove the bleaching gel and rinse your teeth. This will be repeated usually two more times, and the protective coating on your gums will be removed. You will leave the office with your teeth several shades whiter. To maximize the whitening, you’ll be given a set of custom trays to wear over your teeth and a tube of at-home whitening gel.

Teeth whitening works well for stains caused by:

  • Coffee
  • Wine
  • Tea
  • Berries
  • Smoking

It will also whiten the natural pigment of your teeth. If you wish, you can brighten them whiter than they ever were naturally.

Whitening, however, isn’t very effective for stains caused by the antibiotic tetracycline. The treatment of choice here would be porcelain veneers. Be careful, though. Tetracycline stains are so tricky, you need a dentist like Dr. Steinberg who has had experience dealing with these dark stains to give you a truly beautiful result.

Is Whitening Permanent?

Yes, whitening is permanent in the sense that the stains oxidized away during your treatment are gone for good. However, new stains can form. Fortunately, it’s easy to touch up your whitening and keep your teeth pearlescent.

Most patients prefer the fast results of in-office tooth whitening. However, you can also take home a whitening kit and use it daily until your teeth are the shade you desire.
