Deep Cleaning
Deep cleaning is done to reduce plaque, calculus, and other causes of periodontal disease. Also known as scaling and root planing, deep cleaning removes biofilm and tartar from the pocket areas between your teeth and gums and below the gumline. Plaque and tartar are removed (scaling), and the root surfaces of teeth are smoothed (root planing). Professionally removing disease-causing dental plaque and calculus (tartar) from your teeth can help slow the progression of periodontal disease and increase the chances of you keeping your teeth.
