Gum Contouring
If you’re born with uneven gums, it can be difficult to smile with confidence. One common problem is asymmetrical gum tissue, where the gum tissue is lower on one tooth than it is on the other. This can create the illusion that one tooth is longer than the other. Then there’s the “gummy smile” where the gingival margins of the front teeth are at a low level, making teeth appear too short.
Gum tissue can be reshaped or re-contoured using a scalpel or a dental laser. In instances when gum contouring is not enough to correct the problem, the bone at the front of the tooth root can be reduced.
