Bite Is Off After All-on-4 Dental Implants

Question submitted by Kimmie:

I had all-on-4 Dental Implants done with Clear Choice. I feel like ever since then, my bite has been completely off and I have a hard time chewing. To me, it feels like all the teeth are too big. I went back to see them, but they insist everything lines up properly. While I do think they are lined up, I think the left side touches before the right side. Everything hurts and I don’t know what to do. Have you encountered this before? Will they listen to me?

Kimmie

Dear Kimmie,

All on 4 dental implants diagram.

I’m sorry this happened to you. If you were able to get another dentist to corroborate that the all-on-4 appliance is not fit properly, I believe they will work with you. There are ways for dentists to check the bite registration, which would serve as some proof. Though, in all honesty, they should be doing that themselves. If the teeth are not occluding together properly, this can lead to serious problems, including TMJ Disorder.

If there is a problem and Clear Choice won’t work with you, I would not leave things as they are and try to just “put up with it”.  A bite that is not occluding for you will leave you in pain and only get worse. It will be extremely important that you get this fixed. If Clear Choice doesn’t do it, look for someone with expertise in this area. A prosthodontist will be a good idea because they have additional training. Just make sure they are familiar specifically with the all-on-4 procedure because this is done differently than traditional dental implants.
